IntroductionThese are a combination of serious and fun books (all somehow related to medicine) that you may find interesting. And they ask you questions about these in exams too. Just kidding. But read them anyway.
Awakenings | | NHS Plc: The Privatisation of our Healthcare | | | A touching insight into Parkinson's Disease, by Oliver Sacks. Not light hearted like some of the other books reviewed in this section, but worthy of a recommendation. | | | A superbly written book that tells the tale of the NHS as it really is. Discussing the various political, organisational, and financial changes that have taken place in the NHS, this book is very easy to read. Even if the thought of reading about public health disturbs you, NHS plc is a must read for all of the Department of Health's future undervalued & unappreciated slaves doctors. |
Bedside Stories | | House of God | | | | Very funny diary-like account of life as a junior doctor. Read it. | | | Many regard this as 'essential' reading for all future doctors. However, while it starts with the perfect witty-yet-cynical take on medical life, it sadly descends into somewhat cryptic 'deep and meaningful' prose that is, unfortunately, a little boring. Despite this, this should remain on the reading list of any medical trainee. |
In Stitches
| | Trust Me I'm a Junior Doctor | | | A humorous account of life in A&E - unsurprisingly, as told by an A&E doctor... | | | Another funny account of life on the front line. |
Cynical Acumen | | | | | | A funny textbook...if that is possible! | | | |
