NICE Guidelines
What is NICE?
The UK's National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is an independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on the promotion of good health and the prevention and treatment of ill health. NICE regularly publish guidelines on topics related to public health, health technologies and clinical practice. In recent times, NICE has increasingly found itself at the centre of debates surrounding the recommendation (or rather lack of recommendation) for newer, more expensive treatments. With finite funding available, the role of NICE is not an easy one; consequently, it has often been dubbed by some as the 'National Instutute of Cost Effectiveness'.
